It is a great pleasure to invite you to take part in the fourth edition of the International Symposium on Synthesis and Catalysis 2021 (ISySyCat2021) taking place at the University of Evora in the historically recognized mediaeval city
of Evora from August 31st to September 3rd 2021. The city of Evora besides its striking beauty, uniqueness and hospitality is steeped in history having been the home to the Romans, the Moors, Visigoth's and others, including kings of
Portugal. It has a coveted UNESCO world heritage stamp, and this walled city is the location of a Roman temple, and several palaces and exotic cathedrals. The conference will take place in the original part of the University known as
Colégio Espirito Santo which dates back to the 16th Century.
The conference will focus on key topics in contemporary organic, organometallic, polymer synthesis and catalysis, which are of relevance to both academic and industrial chemists alike. This is reflected in the topics that will be
discussed in the plenary lectures. Generally speaking, ISySyCat focuses strongly on chemical synthesis with catalysis as one of the key enablers. Like always, we anticipate a good mix of participants from academia and industry. This is
reflected in the list of plenary speakers that hail from both academia and industry from all over the world. We are eagerly looking forward to seeing you in Evora in September 2021.

The conference will be organized into 15 plenary lectures (45 min. each), delivered by a series of internationally recognized speakers from academia and industry (at the conference venue and via zoom), over 20 short talks (selected from the submitted abstracts by the scientific committee, at the venue and via zoom), several flash talks (each selected from the submitted abstracts by the scientific committee, at the venue and via zoom) and two poster sessions (at the venue and transmitted via zoom). There will be prizes for the best communications.
The poster sessions will be divided into three distinct categories; Synthetic Methodology, Catalysis, total or target based synthesis. The scientific committee will select the best posters from each category, and a prize will be awarded to the first author.
For the in person poster presenters, they will be expected to place their poster in their attributed space by lunch-time on the 31st of August and remove them by the coffee break on the last day (3rd of September).
Those who will be presenting oral communications should send their power-point presentations to the organizing committee via email about 3-4 days from the start of the conference.
Those who arrive on the 30th of August can register in the evening of the 30th of August from around 4 pm onwards (till about 7 pm). We recommend this to avoid queuing on the following day.
The venue will be clearly sign-posted. When at the conference venue, all in person participants will be expected to follow the health and safety guidelines (based on the most updated information issued by the General Directorate for Health -Portugal) that we will be sent to all in person participants before the start of the conference.
The conference will focus on the following key areas:
Merck, USA
University of Muenster, Germany
Scripps (CA), USA
University of Auckland, New Zealand
CALTEC, USA
Stanford University, USA
Manchester University, UK
Max Planck Institute for Polymer Research, Germany
Eindhoven University of Technology, Holland
Amgen, USA
Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Spain
Syngenta, Switzerland
Cambridge University, UK
BASF, Ludwigshafen, Germany
Each registered participant will be entitled to submit up to 2 abstracts, for a poster or either an oral or a flash presentation (there is also the option of flash presentation with poster). However, only one abstract will be considered for oral or flash presentation.
The meeting’s official language will be English
Abstracts should be submitted via the SPQ registration site. Please, log in using the login and the password provided during the registration process and then proceed with "abstract submission". Please use the Microsoft Word file Abstract Template that is provided.
The abstract must not exceed one A4 page. The selection of the oral and flash communications to be presented will be undertaken by the scientific committee upon evaluation of the submitted abstracts. The abstract file should be saved as follows: name_surname_poster.doc or name_surname_oral.doc (or docx in either case). Each participant can submit up to two abstracts as presenting author, however, only one will be considered for oral communication and this should be indicated on the appropriate form.
The Deadline for receipt of poster/oral presentation/flash talk abstracts will be the 28th of May 2021.
The participants will be informed by e-mail about the acceptance of their contribution and the type of their presentation by the June 15th, 2021.
Accepted abstracts will be published in the Book of Abstracts (only abstracts of registered participants will be included), so please make payment in a timely fashion.
Please make sure your abstract does not contain any spelling or grammar mistakes, as it will be reproduced as submitted.
The fourth addition of the International Symposium on Synthesis and Catalysis 2021 (ISySyCat2021) will take place at the University of Evora in the historical Colégio de Espirito Santo from August 31st to September 3rd 2021 but it will also be live-on-line.
The conference will focus on key topics in contemporary organic and organometallic synthesis and catalysis, which are of relevance to both academic and industrial chemists alike.
The posters should be printed in A0 format.
For the duration of the conference, the University of Evora, has made available to delegates a limited number of rooms (for 2 or 3 people on a sharing basis) close to the conference venue. The cost will be 26,5 €/night/person, which includes a light continental breakfast in the University canteen in the morning. Please contact the staff at daa@sas.uevora.pt for further details.
